How do you like stitching with the grid temporarily stitched in it?

I did grid the entire piece but took out the thread as I finished each area. I do like working with a grid, especially on patterns like this where there were many, many colour changes and lots of backstitching. It helped a lot. Gridding is boring & tedious though, so I only do it on large projects. :)
