Yes, I have wash numerous piece stitched on white and cream coloured fabric without any problems.  I have washed the finished pieces both by hand and in the washing machine at a temp. of no more than 40°C.  I have always found all DMC colours to be colour fast.

Thanks for the info langstep, the HAED piece I am busy with has the colour 666 in it so it is good to hear that it does not run :)  Post time 2013-4-6 00:52

Thank you for this post...

I have heard negative things about the reds, but I find your response comforting, because I do trust DMCs lightfast quality... I think I will try washing my current peice when I am finished but make sure to keep the water below 40°C.

Ive stitched this red pagoda from MAIA : //www.pindiy.com/forum.php? ... mp;highlight=pagoda
Ill wash it before doing the french knots and backstitches so that I can iron it easily.
Ive finaly noticed that the threads of the kit are from Coats and not from DMC.
I hope they are colorfast too.

If you stitch a line of crosses on a piece of waste fabric first, and dab it with a damp tissue, you can check for "bleeding" before you start your precious work. If any colour comes off on your tissue, think again.  I know someone who, with strong colours, puts the skein of thread on a stitch bow and swills it in hot water, checking for dye loss.  If you only buy DMC or Coats/ Anchor, they are said to be colourfast up to near boiling.  Never tried THAT, myself!  Any painted or overdyed threads need careful consideration.
