For knitting I saw where you can use jump rings and attach any doo-dad to it that you like. As long as there isn't anything that will get caught in the yarn. I have used the little rings the most of course in knitting.  In crochet the locking stich marker works better for me so then I would have to make one with a clasp i forgot what they call it! lol
