it depends partly on your preference i think, take a sample of the fabric and do one 10 x 10 square using 1 over 1 and do another 10 x 10 square using 2 over 1. I did this and felt the 1 over 1 looked less vibrant then the 2 over 1. Also a tip if stitching on aida do the same using 2 over 1 and three over 1. If it isnt economic choice or the piece is going to be treasured for many years i always go for the more vibrant choice. I also hate the fabric showing behind my stitches. Hope this help

1 over 1 means 1 thread over 1 box (think of the open holes in aida fabric)
