Losing Interest

Do you lose interest in your projects? How do you keep going on them, especially when they are large and on a time limit? Do you finish the whole thing, finish it off different to the pattern or give it up?

I would love some tips please! I am making the rings of change for my daughters birthday (June 6th), and I am just really "over" it right now, I am finding it difficult to keep pushing myself to work on it.

you have to push yourself.  Im in between my projects, so I decided to take a few days off.  If you lost your mojo, take a few days off then go back to it.

I have a friend who stitches also.  We keep each other going by sharing photos of the progress we are making on our current projects.  It helps!

Ive been working on the same project now for a couple of years........I knit in between for my finish fix!   So as I finish I move onto the next.

I usually put things aside, even for just a short time can help get back into it again. To me there is nothing worse that working on something when you dont feel like. With cross stitch you can sometime not stitch the background or something else to shorten the job. With a blanket you can make it a little smaller or use a stitch that is a little less tricky to quicken or make it more enjoyable. Good luck pushing ahead! :)

Set a daily goal for stitching on it and when your reach your goal for the day reward yourself with something.  For instance if I am working on one project but really want to start another one I stitch on the old project for say 100 stitches or more an then I can work on the other project.  It also might help that if its a bigger project to take a break from it and do a small project, sometime just the satisfaction of completing a small project is enough to get you motivated to work on it more.  Good luck :)

I put it aside for awhile, sometimes its a LONG while and I might start something more enjoyable. For me working a pattern Im just not into is unnecessary aggravation. Maybe you can make the rings of change for Christmas. The rings of change sounds like a cool pattern. Is it one the site?

Thank you everyone! I am really struggling right now, but trying to look at the bigger picture of how much joy it may bring her to have it on her bed now winter has come :)

The crocodile stitch is just so taxing and having 4 rows of it to complete has me almost wishing to pull my hair out my head, one by one :Q;P

I may not make it to the actual finish line on this one, but I am hoping to make it to a suitable finish line in time to be able to wash and block it for her.

I sometimes will take a break during a large project and do a smaller project. Right now, Im making a very large afghan. Its different colored brioche squares and can be quite fun, but I need a break after 10 or 20 squares. So I have to put it down and knit a pair of socks or a sweater or something to just give me a break. Then I go back to the afghan. It will take me forever to finish it because of this, but at least I wont hate the project!
