Increase in pattern costs

Has anyone else noticed the latest round of knitting patterns are posted at 200 GC each?  I thought 100 was a bit much but since everyone else seemed to be doing it I did also.  I honestely dont know if I can bring myself to post with a cost of 200 GC nor can I bring myself to pay that much either.  It just seems that its getting totally out of hand what the asking price is.  I purchase everything I post here and cant justify that price.  I know its not real money but it takes so darned long to get GCs it is very limiting in what can be "purchased", and add the 30 GC the site takes - it makes it really hard to swallow for me  I probably would have downloaded all of them for 100 GC but now Ill just thank the person and take my 5 GC for responding.  OK - so I vented for the New Year.  Having said that - I wish all of you the very best New Year ever :-)

PLUS 330 GC to download the 11 parts - they charge you for each in addition to the 50 GC for each part posted. AND you have to buy each piece or you wont have the entire book!  What Ive done when posting multiple parts is to put a price on the FIRST one (and nowhere near the total cost of 550 GCs) and the rest - no cost cause the folks have to pay that darned 30 GC for each download even if its free! What this does is prevent someone like me who owns the book also, from posting it at a reasonable GC price.  I guess they  figure because there is more than one pattern they can justify the cost.  Pretty soon magazines will be at that price also - wait and see.  Apparently some people just dont care about how long it took them to get the coins so they just spend them.  I wont do it and if everyone else stayed on board and didnt buy them either it would stop.  Im becoming much more selective with my GCs - only buying what I think I will actually make and NOT paying more than 100 GC for ANYTHING.  Like anything else, if you dont buy something the "store" (in the case the people posting) will get the picture and post at a lower cost. Thats JMHO.

PS - just looked up current pricing - $9.99 US for my Kindle (and I converted it).  I buy things because I WANT them and if I can share at a reasonable cost and get some GCs thats great, otherwise its just greed IMHO.  And, if you have the money to purchase things simply to put them for sale here you dont really need all those GCs do you?

Yes, it is getting a bit much too.  I know people want the Gold Coins to purchase other things for them but it is a little out of hand.

I feel if they charged less then they would get more that way.  I feel sorry for the new members that do not have a way to get these.

The forum was a great place before.  I dont mind 100 if its something I really want but I will pass on the 200.

Being here for a very very long time I have way too much now.  :lol:lol:lol
So I am very selective in what I get.

Most of what is posted is almost duplicate of stuff I have.  Designers have lost their creative thinking and duplicate others. When a fad comes out then everyone else jumps in to design the same thing.

Example....Red Truck with Christmas Tree in it....

So when that happens of the same idea then I wait to see who has the best one designed.

There are Facebook groups from a lot of designers that are Generous in giving out free patterns...and a lot that is posted here for 50 gold coins came from that designers website or Facebook page that was...Free...to begin with. So why charge 50 gold coins and up?

There is so many Free patterns of the same design element on the internet you can find it without spending those 200 Gold Coins plus 30 Gold to download it.

But for some I guess it is easier to come here then spend hours looking on the internet and pay 200 Gold.

Have a Happy New Year Too!!!!!

I totally agree. I miss the Old days of the forum. I do not knit but Cross Stitch, So sorry about your health issue and I hope things are better in that area. May 2019 bring you Great health  Post time 2019-1-1 04:41

Well, I for one, will not buy anything over 100 GC.  If enough people dont buy theyll get the me ...

Absolutely. I also buy books and patterns from the authors sites when Im really interested. This is kind of a hobby and only a few patterns will become finished projects. Ill need about 3 more lives to knit and crochet everything I downloaded so far... but I recognize that I have bought some of these 200 GCs patterns, just because I liked them. But if most of the patterns are going to be so expensive, Ill lose interest soon. I cant spend such a lot of time trying to save GCs.

Exactly, you spent 200 + 30 GC just to have them. Had they been 100 GC I might have but I know I wont make most of them so being very particular and just wont pay 200 GC.  Post time 2019-1-3 01:22

Its not just single patterns. This book looks lovely but the price comes to nearly 900 coins!

I thought 100 gcs was alot.  Im not surprised price went up to 200 gc., and those who see this new price will now jack up their prices.  The site says they can charge up to 999gcs and Im not surprised if it goes that high.   Im at the point where I will not buy anything that cost 100 and above.  I have friends around the world that share, so I dont need this site.  Its getting ridiculous and no one seems to care.  The only one who is benefiting frm this are the Chinese in China. They are getting these patterns for free, selling these patterns, putting them in books and selling them so they are the only ones who are making out here.

This site has changed, it use to be fun.  No one gives anyone the free gcs for posting either a pattern or what they made, no one ives the heart points out anymore. THey just like for the lousey 5 points.  Very discouraging.

Happy New Year.

I agree 100%. I think people are just getting too greedy and it will be the downfall of the site :-( Sad because I really do like the site.  Details Reply Post time 2019-1-1 04:15

I was just thinking the same thing about the price of the knitting patterns. Regardless of what the pattern is for, a hat, a shawl, a sweater, or who the designer is, it is all listed at 200 GC, That is not sharing but a display of nasty greed! While on the topic, I am confused why forum members ask how to get more GCs when they should be asking how to join in and post patterns, and not the stuff that is available free for a short time.
I can only hope that 2019 will bring about a more sharing attitude. It is sad to be disappointed whenever I visit this forum.

Yes,its getting out of hands. Its very hard for newcomers to buy patterns.I even donate coins to newcomers so they have a chance.I hardly get anything from this site.I miss the old times when it was about sharing, now its about selling.Sad!

Ill have to check into donating to newcomers - great idea! Especially since it will take them forever to get enough to download just one pattern at 200 GC plus the 30 GC the site takes.  Details Reply Post time 2019-1-1 04:22

Im so glad Im not the only one who is upset with the increase in costs.  I agree - quantity downloads would earn more GC than higher pricing.  I have commented on many patterns with 200 GC pricing but will NOT download.  I dont really need them, theyre nice to have is all.  99% of them I wont make anyway LOL so why waste the GC.

That really is quite expensive which is a shame. Though it looks like most of the patterns are newer ones (two of them had Ravelry pattern pages made in the last few weeks) and from rather popular designers so I suppose thats why the uploader is charging such a premium. It does keep me from downloading them though. I collect a lot of patterns and cheaper ones I will buy just to have. These though I think I will only buy if I decide to make them.

My sentiments exactly. Does it really matter if the patterns are "newer"? Im a patternaholic but in reality Ill never make most of the patterns I have so with the increased cost Ive become much,  Details Reply Post time 2019-1-1 11:41
