Perfect Pocket Shawl - Help with adjustment length

Excel is a really good idea! I dont know if this helps (and unfortunately I can only offer cm again):

In column A you have to enter the body sizes in cm. (In steps of 5 cm this should work fine.)

In column B, row 1, enter this formula (without quotation marks) to calculate the required shawl length: "=142/173*A1".
Then you copy this formula into the following cells (B2, B3, ...) by dragging the fill handle.

In column C row 1 you enter this formula to calculate the number of stiches: "=11/10*B1".
Then you copy this formula into the following cells (C2, C3, ...)

If you format the columns so that no decimal places are displayed, the table could be quite usable.

In column C, however, even numbers can be calculated. It is beyond my Excel skills to add another stitch in cases of even numbers (because the pattern requires an odd number of stitches).

You are a sweetie, thank you for the formulas. Waaaaaay beyond my abilities but I did use formulas with confidence many, many years ago so I am going to have to play catch up  Post time 2021-5-25 19:39

Oh my goodness...waahhh...Excel and I are not friends :curse:  But I have made a start.  Need to print out my chart and use a real calculator and pen, I am getting dizzy with the back and forward of using online tools!

I have rounded off the cm number.  Please let me know if you see any errors so far!

Your chart looks great. And I understand your decision to use paper and pencil.
Maybe the following numbers can help you with the calculations. (Sorry, I cant upload a picture of the table.)

1. column: Height (cm)
2. column: Scarf Length (cm)
3. column: Base Chain

143          117        129
153          126        138
158          130        143
163          134        147
168          138        152
173          142        156
178          146        161
183          150        165
188          154        170
193          158        174

In any case, the base chain numbers need some intellectual correction (odd number of stitches).
