oooo this is news to me - i didn’t even know there were two different types! the X looks a little neater to my eyes but both look good!

I started with V stitch, but I was lucky I saw some videos about the X one before get used to the V. I prefer X!

Also started with V. In general, I prefer the X for uniformity, but sometimes the V works better because it has a softer look.
