i had the same problem, for my latest doll, i put a short & large knitting needle like size number 6 or 8 inside the doll before sewing the haid to the body. It gives rigidity. :D

why spend the extra $$ on needles to keep the dolls head straight? Use ice cream sticks or very thick straws.  Post time 2015-5-7 09:56

I put in the neck doll hair curlers. They wind the hair of women.
Doll can bend the neck in different directions. And it is safe for children.

My best advice is to keep it snug but not too tight—if it’s too loose, the head might wobble like a bobblehead, and if it’s too tight, well, you might find yourself wrestling with your yarn more than you’d like! Usually, a few rounds of single crochet stitches worked evenly around will do the trick. Some folks like to make the neck just a tiny bit narrower than the head and body to give it a nice shape.
Also, don’t be shy about stuffing! A little extra stuffing in the neck area can help it hold shape without making it too stiff. And if you’re joining the head to the body after both are made, whip stitching carefully and securely will keep everything cozy and in place.
Remember, sweetie, amigurumi is all about love and patience—your dolls don’t need to be perfect, just made with a warm heart (and maybe a cat or two supervising). Keep practicing, and before you know it, your little dolls will be strutting their stuff with the cutest little necks around!

You can either make a neck and stuff it stiffly or stuff the head very tight and sew the bead on all sides or stick either a thick straw in the neck or an ice cream stick.
