Ive seen a lot of different systems on here for storing cross stitch thread. I thought I would share mine with everyone.
I use ziplock snack size storage bags, index cards and plastic shoe boxes. I print the number and name on a sticker that I place on each index card. The index card goes into the storage bag, which helps to hold it upright. I can see all my floss very easily. Finding the number I need is easy when thumbing through. So far I only have one shoe box of thread. Before I took a break from stitching I had three plastic boxes of thread on bobbins. After retrieving it from storage I found that it had a moldy smell to it, so Im starting my thread collect from scratch.

When I pull my thread for a project Ill put those specific storage bags in a separate shoe box. If Im using the same color in two projects Ill make up a separate index card and storage bag for the second project. When I complete I put the extra index cards in one storage bag. Theyll be there to use if ever needed again.

I also punch a hale in the top corner of each bag to allow for some air flow.

It seems to be a lot of work for the first time, but it will be easier for the refill. You dont have to wind again and again like if you are using bobbins. Thats a great idea :handshake

Its actually not that much work. I remember winding the bobbins and it would take forever. Filling the storage bags was quick. The hardest part was finding a shoe box that would fit the width and height of the bags.

What a great idea. Just wondering how many bags you would get in a box? Are these shoe boxes readily available?

Thats a great idea too! The baggies are perfect if you like to have more than one skein of the same color. And yes the boxes are available in different styles. Ive seen them even with a little handle on top of the lid to carry the box around.

Thanks for the pics Keiryn!

nagyon szupi, márcsak azért is, mert ha egy színből kettő darab van, azt is könnyű tárolni benne:handshake
